Act Now: Ask Congress to support Songwriter Equity Act
As you may have read, the US Court of Appeals ruled in ASCAP's appeal of the Pandora rate court decision, affirming Judge Cote’s original ruling on both partial withdrawals and the Pandora rate.
“This ruling reaffirms what we already know – that the ASCAP Consent Decree and the rules that govern music licensing are outdated and completely out of step with the way people listen to music today. This is a wake up call for creators to stand together, get involved and fight for their right to be paid a fair market rate for the use of their works.” - ASCAP CEO Beth Matthews
Next week, on May 13th, we will host ASCAP Songwriter Advocacy Day in Washington, DC, bringing songwriters, ASCAP Board members and others to walk the halls of Congress and urge policymakers to support songwriters.
Your voice is also critical in sending a strong message that we need music licensing reform now – and fast!
Here are 3 steps you can take right now to help:
Write to your members of Congress and urge them to support the Songwriter Equity Act.
Tweet to your fans and followers, and ask them to spread the word.
Read ASCAP President Paul Williams’s call-to-action from the recent ASCAP Membership Meeting to learn more.
We are stronger together! Thanks for standing with ASCAP in our fight for the value of music.
